Rev. Dr. Arthur H. Charlton, Jr., J.P.

And I will set up one shepherd over them, and he shall feed them..." (Ezekiel 34:23)

"And I will set up one shepherd over them, and he shall feed them..." (Ezekiel 34:23)
Rev., as he is affectionately called by members of his congregation, is a Spirit-filled man of God, who has a deep love and sense of compassion for others. He was reared by his grandmother, the late Consuela James-Williams. These early years laid the foundation for the life and the ministry of a humble servant of God. On September 28, 1973, at the age of 18, he accepted the Lord as his personal Savior. As a young man, Rev was extremely dedicated to the bus ministry and evangelism field, but he soon knew there was a calling upon his life that he could not substitute. Dr. Charlton attended Evans Barr Memorial Bible School in 1984, The Bahamas Baptist Bible Institute in 1988, Caribbean Community Ministerial Academy in 1991, and was ordained Minister at New Bethany Baptist Church, Key West Street, Nassau, Bahamas in 1996. Pastor Charlton answered the call of God to higher service and on April 21, 2002, he was installed as pastor of the Mount Vernon Missionary Baptist Church during its commissioning service. Dr. Charlton received an honorary Doctor of Theology degree from Universal Bible College in April 2016.

For over fifty years in ministry, his heart for serving God's people has not changed. While many preachers are focused on fame and prosperity, Pastor Charlton remains focused on service. It is rare to find a preacher of Pastor Charlton's caliber who remains as humble as he is. Dr. Charlton still visits the sick and privately counsels members of his church family. He greets each individual member of the congregation with a warm hug and a kind word after every worship service. Pastor Charlton is married to the former Dellarease V. Watson. He has five beautiful children, Chacanta, Darius, Dario, Laura and Ashton, and is the proud grandfather of eight (8).

Dr. Charlton serves as Vice President-at-large of The Bahamas Baptist Missionary & Educational Convention with responsibility for Family Island Affairs and 1st Vice Moderator of The Bahamas Baptist Association (BBA). He is a former Statistician of the National Baptist Convention, and former Moderator of the BBA,  and works closely with the other pastors in the South Beach Constituency. He is also a Justice of The Peace in The Commonwealth of The Bahamas.
